Balbir Pasha Phase 2
Behavioural change
Sponsor :  Population Services International
Location :  Mumbai
Period :  November 2004 to February 2005
Website :  www.psiopl.org
Email : Kavita Jayaraman
Description :
In the wake of its highly successful Balbir Pasha campaign aimed a risk-perception and behaviour change in the context of HIV/AIDS, Population Services International (PSI) is launching Phase 2 of the campaign. Phase 2 of the campaign is aimed at reducing stigma and discrimination connected with HIV/AIDS, making it easier to discuss the issue. PSI says that this is critical to raising “the risk perception among men indulging in high-risk behaviour”.

Phase 2 addresses married men and the risk they put their families at when they indulge in extra-marital affairs, and that sexual relations with any non-spousal partner puts one at risk of contracting HIV. It also stresses that not wearing a condom is a misplaced sign of being macho.

A wide range of communication channels will be used to promote this campaign, such as outdoor hoardings, bus shelters, press, cinema theatres, television, cable and radio. PSI believes that if the target group is exposed to messages on HIV/AIDS on a sustained basis, there will be a positive shift towards practising safer sex and less indulgence in high-risk behaviour.
